Sovereign Order of Malta. Naval Signals-3.

Post by Anatol » Mon Mar 09, 2026 3:52 pm

MARITIME SIGNALS in USE at THE BEGINNING of THE 18th CENTURY.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the Order of Malta's navy, under the leadership of Grand Master Raimondo Perellos y Roccaful (1697–1720), continued to use galleys as its main vessels, complemented by ships of the line, frigates, and xebecs. Maritime signals included the use of flags, standards with the eight-pointed white cross (Maltese cross) on a red field, and acoustic and light signals, essential for tactical maneuvers and communication between vessels in military and patrol operations.
Attempt to translate the sheet marks:
3-left. To bring to order. 3-right. To bring in the armed boats.
For more details, see Ancient Naval Signals of the Order.
Sovereign Order of Malta (SVMO) 1997; (45tari x 6).
