Re: ARRC AUTONOMOUS RESCUE AND RECOVERY CRAFT

Following my message to the ATA Ships Group in 2016 I can confirm that the ARRC vessels have now been taken over by the UK Border Force and several are based at Dover to intercept illegal migrants who are crossing the English Channel from France to try and get into the UK. 6 of the vessels have been...

Re: CONNECTOR

The ship on this stamp has a two word name which would make it the LEWEK CONNECTOR.

Re: TOGO PADDLESTEAMERS issued in 2014

One of the two ships on the lefthand side (the lower one) of the NATCHEZ has been identified by myself as MAID OF THE LOCH which is preserved at Balloch on the southern end of Loch Lomond. I think I posted this on the Watercraft Philately list some years ago, but I might be mistaken.

The ship in the margin of the 1993 Guyana MS is a US Coast Guard ice breaker and not the MALYGIN.

Re: ESVAGT CHAMPION rescue vessel

I can confirm that the ship on the stamp is not the ESVAGT CHAMPION which I saw and photographed departing Aberdeen a few days ago. I was talking to friend in Aberdeen this morning and mentioned the X bow vessel. He thinks that Esvagt have two X bows that are currently operating in the Norwegian sec...

Re: BORDER TARTAN or BORDER THISTLE

I am not sure whether either of the Border tankers would have gone to Cuba. They were mostly seen tootling around British ports delivering fuel from Fawley to smaller ports like Aberdeen. This would not be the the first time that Cuba has issued a stamp that has no connection to the island. The tug ...

Re: NASHVILLE USS LPD-12

This ship is NOT the USS NASHVILLE. It is incorrectly named in Gibbons' Ships on Stamps

Many years ago I identified it as the Irish Naval Vessel EITHNE which has since appeared on at least one Irish stamp - SG 703.

Re: Cia. Trasmediterranean FAST FERRIES

An update on the ALCANTARA. I saw this ferry on 28 October 2007 heading to the port of Algeciras in the bay of Gibraltar. She had just crossed from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on the north African coast opposite Gibraltar. She was sailing under the colours of the Spanish company Acciona Transmedite...

Re: Astragale

According to MIRAMAR, ASTRAGALE was built as HMS WALRUS, a naval air stores carrier, in 1945 by Blyth DD. She was commissioned on 10 December 1945. J J Colledge’s Ships of the Royal Navy states that in 1953 she was renamed HMS SKUA and in 1962 was sold for mercantile use. Links:- http://www.roderick...
