MOZART

Built as a steel cargo sailing vessel under yard No 248 by Greenock & Grangemouth Dockyard Co., Greenock U.K. for account of A.C. de Freitas & Co., Hamburg.
20 February 1904 launched as the MOZART one sister the BEETHOVEN.
Tonnage 2,003 grt, 1,875 net, 3,300 dwt., dim. 82.0 x 12.2 x 7.3m., length bpp. 80.1m.
Barquentine rigged.
Crew 28 under which 12 cadets.
29 February 1904 delivered to owners as a cargo cadet ship.

In 1905 sailed from Port Talbot, U.K. to Junin, Chile in 89 days, she was that voyage under command of Capt. O. Schmidt.
Her retour voyage loaded with nitrate from Iquique to the English Channel she made in 89 days.
1907 She made a voyage from Pisagua, Chile to Sydney, Australia in 63 days.
Her return voyage from Sydney to Iquque she made also in 63 days.

1908 Command was taken over by Capt. P. Justi.
Under his command she made an other round voyage from Chile to Australia in 1908.
After arrival in Chile she leaded nitrate in Taltal and arrived at the Lizard after a passage of 105 days.

17 February 1911 Sold to Schlüter & Maack, Hamburg for 150.000 DM.
During World War I was she laid up in Taltal.
1920 Delivered as war damage compensation to the Allies, and she sailed with a full cargo of nitrate from Taltal to Oostende, Belgium.
After arrival in Oostende, Belgium handed over to France.
1921 Sold to Hugo Lundqvist, Mariaham, Aland Islands.
She sailed from Oostende for Norway to load a cargo of timber, with a crew of 14, a voyage of around three days, but it took her two months to reach Bergen.
Thereafter mostly used in the grain trade from Australia. The MOZART was a slow sailer, and she made slow passages, and very hard to steer, with wind from behind she needed four men to steer her.

Her last voyage was on 27 March 1935 when she left Port Lincoln, Australia, and arrived at Falmouth 15 July 1935 for orders, she sailed then to Belfast for discharging
August 1935 sold to Arnott & Young, Dalmuir, Scotland and broken up in September 1935 at Dalmuir.

Falkland Islands 1989 6d sg617, scott? And 1991 6d sg?, scott? (same design but has the year 1991 on it.)
