Sacred boat of Isis

Post by john sefton » Wed Apr 21, 2010 9:25 pm

Following the "ARK" the next ship on stamps, in chronological order, is one of Queen Hatshepsut's ships, from the carvings on the wall of the Temple of Bahari, dating back to 1500 B.C. This 85ft long
Egyptian Galley is featured on stamps of Egypt, Somali, San Marino
and Poland at various times. The Sacred Boat of Isis, from the
Temple of Philae, is seen on the stamp issued by Dahomey in 1964.
The galley which the Queen of Sheba used on her voyage to King Solomon is featured on a stamp issued by the Yemen Post Office in 1969. The
stamp designer however, has fitted the galley with jib sails and rat
lines, which must have been a surprise to King Solomon! They were
introduced a few centuries later.
