ZEFFIRO destroyer 1905

Built as a destroyer by Pattison Yard in Naples, Italy for the Italian Navy.
14 May 1904 launched as the ZEFFIRO one of the Nembo class of which six were built.
Displacement: 325 ton standard, 380 ton full load. Dim. 63.39 x 5.94 x 2.29m. (draught)
Powered by 2 triple expansion steam engines, steam supplied by three Thornycroft watertube coal fired boilers, 5,200-5,350 hp, twin shafts, speed 30.2 knots during trial.
Bunker capacity 90 ton coal.
Range by a speed of 9 knots, 2,200 mile
Armament 5 – 27mm guns, 4 – 21 inch torpedo tubes.
Crew 51-58 men.
01 April 1905 completed.

The class was designed by Engineer Luigi Scaglia in association with the British firm Thornycroft.
Between 1908 till 1912 the class was reboilered to fuel oil, bunker capacity 60 ton oil.
After 1909 armament altered to 4 – 3 inch guns and 2 – 17.7 inch torpedo tubes.
During World War I she served in many raids on enemy harbours and her flag was decorated by the Military Valour Silver Medal.
After the war in 1912 rebuilt, the forward boiler was removed and its funnel.
01 July 1921 reclassified as Torpedo Boat (TB).
13 March 1924 stricken, where after she was scrapped.
