WATERSPRITE mail packet

Built as a wooden hulled paddle steamer by George Graham at Harwich for the Post Office Packet service.
Original 162 ton (bm) with a 60 nhp steam engine.
1826 Completed under the name WATERSPRITE.

After completing put in the service between Weymouth and the Channel Islands.
She was later lengthened by White in Gosport.
1836 Re-engined by a side lever 75 nhp steam engine, manufactured by Boulton, Watt & Co.
May 1837 transferred to the Royal Navy and renamed HMPS WILDFIRE.
Tonnage then given as 185 ton (bm), dim. 114.0 x 18.8 x 11.7ft.
Armament 1 – 6pdr brass gun.
Crew 12.

Thereafter still used in the packet service based at Weymouth.
April 1845 till 1865 used as a tender at Sheerness.
December 1888 sold to W. walker for breaking up.
