The 9d. stamp depicts the badge of the Weston (ex- Weston-super-Mare) built at Devonport Dockyard, 1932. This sloop of 1,060 tons, was the first bearer of the name, and had a length of 250 ft., and beam of 34 ft. Armament was 2-4 in. gains. She was broken up by Howells at Gelleswick Bay, Milford Haven in 1947. Originally named Weston-super-Mare at the wish of Mr.A.V. Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty, she was, however, launched as the Weston.
Battle Honours: North Sea 1940, Atlantic 1940-44, English Channel 1945.
Sea Breezes December 1969.
