BALNY (and not BAINY as written in Gibbons) (pennant F729).
Aviso‑escorteur "COMMANDANT RIVIERE" class.
Built by LORIENT dock yard. Laid down March 1960. Launched 17th March 1962. Comp 1st February 1970. Displacement 1.750 tons (2.230 deep load). Dimensions 102,70 x 11,80 x 5(propeller).
Armament 2/100 AA (1x2) 2/30AA(1x2) 1.305 mortar ‑ 6.550 TT ASM (3x2).
Electronic Equip: Radars: l/DRBV 22A ‑ 1 Decca 1226, 1 DRBC 32c ‑ Sonar: 1/DUBA. 3,
Complement: 9 officers + 160 men.
Machinery: The BALNY has been used as test‑bed for new machinery. She spent 9 years between launch
and final acceptance as the tried out a new CODAG system ‑ 11500 cu = 26 kts. Range: 13,000m/l0 kts.
She has a role of patrol vessel in the Pacific French Islands.

Used for some time in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean, then she was based on the French Pacific Islands in 1976, and only left the Pacific for French for dry-docking and renovation.
July 1994 decommissioned.
Then used as breakwater at Lanvéoc (French Finisterre) before her hull was scuttled off the coast of Brest on 1 September 2003.
