WIND STAR cruise vessel 1986

Built as a sailing passenger ship under yard No 269 by Ateliers et Chantiers du Nouvelle du Havre, Le Havre for Windstar Cruises Ltd., Nassau, Bahamas.
13 November 1985 launched as the WIND STAR, two sisters the WIND SONG and WIND SPIRIT
Tonnage 5,307 grt, 922 dwt., dim. 134.2 x 15.8 x 4.1m.
Powered diesel electric by two Wärtsila diesel engines, 4,290 hp., speed 11 knots under engine.
Rigged as a 4 -masted staysail schooner, sail area 2,000 square meters.
The sails are computer-controlled and can be furled and unfurled in 1 minute time
Accommodation for 148 passengers and 88 crew.
01 November 1986 completed and delivered to owners.

During the summer months, she is mostly in the Mediterranean, while during the winter months you can find her in the Caribbean or Middle America.
1987 Holland America Line (HAL) bought 50% of the shares and the other 50% in 1988.
1989 HAL became a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation.

March 2007 Carnival sold Windstar to Ambassadors International for USA$100 million.

2022 According http://www.equasis.org in service, she is owned by Wind Star Ltd., Seattle, under Bahamas flag and registry, IMO No 8420878, and managed by Windstar Cruises Ltd., Seattle.

The other stamp of $2.50 depicts a small motor yacht used by anglers.

St Lucia 1991 80c sg1061, scott977 and 1991 $5 MSsg1064, scott980. (she is the small passengership on the right of the stamp.)
