ANTELOPE ferry 1889

Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard No 569 by Laird Bros, Birkenhead for the Great Western Railway Company, London.
04 May 1889 launched as the ANTELOPE two sisters the LYNX and GAZELLE.
Tonnage 668 grt, dim. 235.6 x 27.7 x 13.1ft.
Powered by two triple expansion steam engines, 1,700 ihp, twin shafts, speed 16 knots.
Her original certificate did give that she could carry 431 passengers.
She was identical to her sisters.
July 1889 delivered.

After completing put in the Weymouth to the Channel Islands service.
10 June 1890 she was holed on Cavale Rocks, Guernsey.
November 1893 during a gale she ran out of coal but managed to get in shelter in Swanage Bay, where she was refueled
1910 Used in the service from Plymouth to Brest.
1913 Sold to Greek owner Yannoulates in Piraeus for £4,500, and the vessel was registered under S.A. Ionienne de Nav a Vapew, renamed ATROMITOS.
She was placed in the Cyclades service.
During World War I when controlled for contraband by her sister the LYNN was she arrested
After 1919 in the service between Chios to Mytilene.

Lloyds Register 1931 gives that she is owned by Hellenic Coast Line. Tonnage is given as 952 grt.

Third-quarter 1933 scrapped.

On the stamp, she is seen berthed alongside the quay at Weymouth.
