ZSOFIA paddle steamer 1914

Built as a paddle steamer by Dresdner Maschinenbau AG., Dresden, Germany for the Hungarian River and Sea Nav. Ltd.(MFTR), Budapest.
After completing the sections were transported to Deggendorfer Werft, Vienna where the ship was reassembled.
Tonnage 350 ton. Dim. 67.0 x 8.00 (over paddles 14.80m.) x 2.20m., length bpp. 64.00m., draught 1.30m.
Powered by triple expansion steam engines 800 hp.
Accommodation for 400 passengers.
1914 Completed as the ZSOFIA FOHERZEGNO (Princess Sophie).

After completing original used as a luxury yacht by MFTR.
She was shortly thereafter chartered by the Hungarian Army and renamed ZSOFIA HERZEGNO.
1919 Returned to MFTR and renamed KOCSAG
1920 Renamed ZSOFIA.
1925 Used for cruises from Budapest.
From late 1944 till 13 December 1946 interned in Austria.
1947 Again under the name ZSOFIA owned by the Hungarian-Soviet Shipping (MESzHART), Budapest.
1949 Renamed SZABADSAG (freedom).
1955 Transferred to Hungarian Shipping Co. Ltd. (MAHART), Budapest, Hungary.
1965 Out of service and scrapped.
