VRAKEKA: In use on Sweden south and southeast coast especially from Blekinge and Skåne.
It is an open fishing boat, believed to date from the 17th century.
Travelled considerable distance to catch herring; used a drift net.
Clinker-planked curved, raked stem, some terminating in a sharp point; shallow raked transom; deep keel.
Narrow rudder; curved tiller.
Early boats set a tall dipping lugsail to a mast stepped through a thwart amidships; bowlines and spar extended the luff. Mast stayed to stemhead, single shroud on each side, fastened to the frames abaft the mast; rake of mast adjustable. Also portrayed with a lug mainsail and sprit fore-and mizzen sails, as seen on stamp.
Sometimes rowed.
Crew 5-6.
Length 7-9m., beam 2.5m, depth 0.86m.
