WETCHAPHA

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Oct 27, 2011 8:36 pm

For the 40th Anniversary of the hospital ship WETCHAPHA the Thai Post issued one stamp of 2 Bath.

Built as a floating hospital ship for the Thai Red Cross and given as a gift to the Red Cross by King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 19 January 1955.
Launched as the WETCHAPHA.
Tonnage and dimensions not known.

She is in use by the Thai Red Cross along the Chao Phraya River where she provided medical services in the districts along the river. Given basic physical check ups, acupuncture and dentistry as well as to give out consumer goods to people who are infected by floods.
In time the patient’s numbers have increased, the WETCHAPHA got too small to handle all the patients and now the medical team on board moves to shore when they arrived at a settlement and examine there the patients.
2011 So far I can find out she is still in service.
