Depicted on the Grenada $2. stamp issue May 1995 'End of the Pacific War' the battleship MUSASHI is shown on fire (There is only one 'H' in ships name)
Of 64,170 tons. 863ft overall length with a 127.75ft beam and a draught of 35.5ft. 4 shaft geared turbines giving I50,000shp. with a speed of 27.5 knots. Armed with nine 18inch guns plus twelve 6.1inch. and twelve 5in AA. She carried 6 aircraft.
MUSASHI was launched 1 November 1940. YAMATO and MUSASHI were the biggest battleships ever built and constructed in defiance of International treaties.
MUSASHI was put out of action early in 1944 when she was torpedoed by the US submarine TUNNY. MUSASHI took part in the battle of the Philippine Sea. She was sunk at Leyte Gulf on 24 October 1944, it took 11 bombs and 16 torpedoes to sink her.
MUSASHI had been built at Nagasaki by Mitsubishi. As MUSASHI and YAMATO had been built in defiance of International treaties, two virtual 'secret cities' had to be created where they could be constructed.

'Jottings from the Journals' Log Book January 1996 states:Grenadines of Grenada $2. ASlGARI (cruiser) The Japanese Navy had a cruiser ASHIGARA and a destroyer ASAGIRI, these are the nearest that I can find. There 'does not appear to have been a 'vessel named ASIGARI
