AIDACARA cruise vessel

Built as a cruise vessel under yard No.1337 by Kvaerner Masa-Yard Oy, Turku, Finland for the Deutsche Seereederei, Rostock, Germany.
26 August 1994 ordered.
11 September 1995 keel laid down.
16 February 1996 launched as the AIDA.
Tonnage 38,531 grt, 17,094 net, 3,752 dwt. Dim. 193.34 x 27.60 x 16.95m., length bpp. 174.15m, draught 6.00m.
Powered by four 6-cyl. MAN B&W 6 L 48/60 diesels, 21,720 kW, twin pitch propellers, speed 21 knots.
Accommodation for 1230 passengers, crew 369.
04 June 1996 delivered to owners.

07 June 1996 christened at Warnemünde by Christiane Herzog the wife of at that time Bundes President Roman Herzog.
11 June 1996 she made her maiden cruise from Bremerhaven to Palma de Mallorca, which became her homeport, then used during the summer in the Mediterranean and during the winter season she was stationed in the Caribbean.
August 1997 she was taken over by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), Monrovia, Liberia.
August 1999 again sold to the Deutsche Seereederei and the next day transferred to the Aida Cruises-Seatours, the German branch of P&O Princess Cruises.
2000 Transferred to Liberian flag, with homeport Monrovia.
December 2001 Renamed in AIDAcara.
April 2002 transferred to British flag.
September 2003 registered owners given as P & O cruises.
February 2004 owned by Carnival PLC.
November 2004 registered owners, Costa Crociere SpA, Genoa.
April 2005 underwent a refurbishment at Rostock of two weeks.
2012 Same name and owner, managed by Aida Cruises German Branch of Costa Crociere SpA, homeport Genoa, under Italian flag. IMO No. 9112789. Used for world wide cruises.

Her distinctive hull livery with “red lips” eye shadow is designed by the graphic artist Feliks Buttner.
