The Kazinga Channel is a wide, 32km long natural channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George, and a dominant feature of Park. This boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel is a rewarding experience; offers an excellent platform for photography, colourful and stupendous species of birds such the papyrus Gonolek, African skimmer, martial eagle and the illusive shoebill. The channel also attracts a varied range of Migratory birds, animals that include Elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, Uganda Kob, and is one of the world’s places with the largest concentrations of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles.
The trip leaves daily at 08.00, 11.00 14.00and 17.00hours and lasts for roughly two hours. The afternoon departures are most likely to yield good elephant sighting, particularly on a hot day when these thirsty creatures generally gravitate towards water from mid day onwards, sometimes bathing in the channel. The 0800 and 1400 departures should be more rewarding photographically as the light will be softer. The odds of seeing predators and other nocturnal creatures coming to drink are highest in the late afternoon.
Murchison Falls
The Victoria Nile (the Longest River in the world) passes through and races down 80km of white-water rapids before plunging 43m over the rift valley wall at the spectacular Murchison falls. After the falls, the river is transformed into an expansive, placid stream. A launch trip or a boat cruise/ride up this stream to the falls is unforgettable experience. The stream hosts one of Africa’s largest hippopotamus and crocodile populations and a dazzling variety of water birds including the rare shoebill. Animals quenching their thirsty such as the Elephant, hartebeest, giraffe, buffalo, and countless antelope can be admired at the water’s edge as the launch glides along.
