Tuiga's first owner was the Duke of Medinacelli, a close friend of Alphonse XIII, King of Spain. William Fife designed Tuiga as a copy of the Spanish royal yacht Hispania, to race against her. Bought in 1995 by Prince Albert for the Yacht Club de Monaco, Tuiga is now the YCM's proud flagship.

Monaco 1996 3f sg 2292 Scott 2027 (The tall ship is the GLORIA from Colombia and not the GORCH FOCK II from Germany)

Built as a yacht by William Fife & Son at Fairly, Scotland for account of the Duke of Medinacelli from Spain. 20 May 1909 launched under the name TUIGA. Dim. 23.18 x 4.15 x 2.95m. (draught), length of the waterline 15.68m. Sail area 390 square meter. She was built in six months.

She was built for the Duke, which was a close friend of King Alphonso XIII of Spain, designed after the king yacht HISPANIA, so that the two 15 meter yachts could race against each other. The first year she was racing under command of Capt. Carring and took part in regattas in Spain and Cowes, Isle of Wight. When she was racing against the King she arrived always behind the King's yacht HISPANIA. When the First World War broke out racing was stopped and after a sojourn in Scandinavia, she returned to the U.K to race under a reduced rig.
1923 Sold to J.S. Highfield and she was renamed in DORINA. Thereafter for a while to race from the Hamble River, Island of Wight. Later was she renamed KISMET III, and she won the line honours in the 1935 Fastnet Race under Colin Newman. By 1938 was she back in Scotland, but rarely sailed, also during World War II not much used.
1970 Sold to Mr. Rose and renamed NEVADA, sailed down to the Mediterranean, where she was chartered for a while. Late 1980 owned by a Frenchman, who was unfortunately electrocuted on board. Thereafter offered for sale and she was acquired by Fairly Restorations on behalf of the owner of ALTAIR, a famous Fife schooner. She sailed back to the Hamble and underwent a complete restoration under Lloyds Register supervision.
From 1990 to early 1993 a small team worked on her, under the care of the specialist yacht builder Duncan Walker, resulting in a highly authentic yacht. After she was restored in her old glory she took part in regattas in Cannes and La Niolarge, which she both won.1995
Sold to the Yacht Club of Monaco, and used for racing. When she is at Monaco she is moored at the pontoon of her owner. The Tall Ship depicts on the stamp is the training vessel of Columbia the GLORIA.
