Built in 1979 by Leninskaya Kuznitsa, Kiev as trawler ALTINEL I for Altinel I, Istanbul.
In ? sold and rebuilt as research vessel AKADEMIK for Ban Io, Varna, Gt:905, Nt:272, Dw:309, Loa:54,79m. Lbp:51,49m. B:9,82m. D:5m. draft:4,14m. SKL diesel engine:1000 hp. (736 kW) 11¾ kn. IMO.8138463, 2013 still in service.

Built as a stern trawler by Leninskaya Kusnitsa, Kiev, now Ukraine for Altinel I, Istanbul.
Launched under the name ALTINEL I
1979 Completed.

1984 Bought by the Institute of Oceanologie, Varna, Bulgaria and refitted in a research vessel.
Under Bulgarian flag she carried the name AKADEMIK, when she was renamed unknown by my.
Tonnage 905 gross, 272 net, 309.61dwt., displacement 1250 ton. Dim. 55.5 x 9.8 x 4.25m. (draught), length bpp 49.4m. Depth to supper structure deck 7.40m., dept to main deck 5.00m.
Powered by one SKL type NDV 48AU diesel, manufactured by VEB Karl Liebknecht (SKL), Magdeburg, East Germany, 1.000 hp, one propeller, service speed 11.5 knots.
Crew 26 and 16 scientists.
All living quarters and laboratories are fully air-conditioned.
Homeport Varna.

2007 Given by www.equasis.org Owned and managed by BAN IO at Varna, Bulgaria. IMO No 8138463.
Notation is given that she is “dead’ which means not more in service, so probably laid up.

Miramar gives her as deleted on 2004/05
