Re: Odi. Maldive Islands
I believe the above given details on the ODI are for the MAS ODI see: http://www.shipstamps.co.uk/forum/viewt ... =2&t=13313
The vessel on the stamps is an ODI of which the “A Dictionary of the world’s Watercraft from Aak to Zumbra” gives:
Generic term for several types of carvel built boats used in the islands off the west coast of India. Some bluff-bowed, others have a hollow waterline and a high recurved stern. Most are sewn boats. Larger boats have a house amidships and step two mast (as seen on the stamp) A larger type from southern Maldives might be 27.4 meter long.
Маldive Islands 1975; 4l; sg589 and 1978 3l sg748, scott 737 (the inscription on the stamp is BANDU ODI, “bandu” means barge.)
