She is wrongly given in Stanley Gibbons Ships on Stamps as “Kabeki”.

The KABEKEL (which means lighting) were in the older days used in warfare between villages in Palau, but colonial administrations banned their practical use. She were paddled, while their paddles also could be used as spears,
The first war canoe racing were organized in Palau on Athletic Day (Taiiku Dei) during Japanese rule, but when the Japanese were driven out, not any race took place till 1979 when with financial aid from the United States it was possible to built two replica war canoes to commemorate the establishment of self-government in Palau.
In 2004 seven new war canoes were built special for racing.
Original the KABEKEL was made out of a single tree trunk, but now from fibreglass.
Dimensions approx. 10 x 0.36 x 0.94m.
