CRUlZER, Brig sloop 18 guns built 1826 Chatham Dockyard.
385m L100', B30'. Last of Cruizer Class.
Took part in Capture of Aden 19th Jan 1839). Only the tops of her masts can be seen on stamp behind HMS VOLAGE. Sold to Bombay in 1849.

Aden expedition: HMS VOLAGE and CRUISER attack the fort

Built by Chatham Dry-dock for the Royal Navy.
10 June 1823 ordered.
January 1826 keel laid down.
19 January 1828 launched as the HMS CRUISER (not CRUIZER) one of the Snake class.
Tonnage 383 ton (bm), dim. 77.3 x 31.0 x 12.9ft.
Armament 2 – 6pdr. guns bow, 16 – 32pdr carronades, she was in 1833 reduced to 16 guns and in 1848 to to 12 guns.
Crew 125.
October 1828 commissioned under command of Cmdr. John. Edward Griffith for service in the East Indies.
August 1833 after repair in Sheerness and transferred to brig rig, sailed for North America and West Indies under command of Cmdr. John McCausland.
1834 Stranded at San Juandi, Nicaragua, and paid off the same year.
1837 Under command of Cmdr. William Alexander Willis for the same station.
12 February 1838 sailed for the East Indies.
10 May 1839 under command of Cmdr. Henry Wells Giffard, and took part in the occupation of Aden on 18 June 1839.
From 1839 till 1842 China War operations based in Amoy.
March 1843 paid off at Chatham, underwent some repair and was again ship rigged.
07 September 1844 re-commissioned under Cmdr. Edward Gennys Fanshawe for the East Indies.
19 August 1845 boats from the CRUISER took part in an attack on Sherif Osman’s stockade at Malluda Bay, Borneo.
April 1848 paid off and was sold March 1849 in Bombay.
Fate not known.
