BARCELONA. Passenger. Built by Laird Bros, Birkenhead for The Canadian Steam Navigation Co. Launched 1 Sept 1855.
L260'pp B36.3'. 1,603Gt 1,090 Nt. Single screw, horizontal, two-cyl, 300hp reciprocating steam engine by Fawcelt, Preston & Co. Liverpool. 10knts.
Laid down as ERIE Launched as BARCELONA for Linea de Vapores Correos, Espanoles Transatlanticos.
Bought in 1855 by Cie Franco-Americaine and renamed BARCELONE for whom she made Maiden voyage, Havre-New York 3 February 1856, making 4 round voyages. From 26 October 1856 one trip Havre-Lisbon- Tenerife-Bahia Rio de Janeiro. Taken over for war transport during the Crimean war. Sold 1856 to Gauthiers Freres for service from Le Havre - New York starting Feb 1856.
Sold to P & 0 Line 1858 renamed BEHAR.
Sold 6 Nov 1874 in Yokohama and renamed NIIGATA MARU.(Jap)
Scrapped 1898. Broken up 1879
Cie Franco-Arnericaine 1856 Local issue No value. This issue was extensively forged (LB 1/164. WP Jan 1991)
