U-24 (Type 206) 1974

Built as one of the Type 206 class under yard No 446 by Rheinstahl Nordsee, Emden. Germany for the German Navy.
20 March 1972 laid down.
26 June 1973 launched as the U-24. Pennant No S173.
Displacement 450 tons standard, 520 tons full load. Dim.48.6 x 4.6 x 4.5m. (draught surfaced)
Powered by two MTU 12V 493, 4 stroke 600hp diesel engines. One electric motor, one shaft, speed 10 knots surfaced, 17 knots submerged.
Range by a speed of 5 knots, 4,500 mile surfaced, and submerged by a speed of 4 knots, 228 mile.
Test depth more than 200 meter.
Armament: 8 – 533 mm bow torpedo tubes, and 24 mines can be carried externally.
Crew22.
16 October 1974 commissioned based at Eckernförde.

She was built of high-tensile non magnetic steel. Of the class 18 boats were built.
Used by the German Navy for coastal operations.
31 March 2011 decommissioned.
Sold to the Colombian Navy and renamed ARC INTRÉPIDO.
28 August 2012 commissioned in Kiel in the Colombian Navy.
She and a sister were thereafter loaded on a heavy load vessel for transport to Columbia.

2013 In service.

Guinea-Bissau 2012 3000 FCFA in margin of sheet, the submarine on the stamp is the British H-31, the other submarine till so far not identified.
