The passenger ship depict on this stamp is the British KARANJA

Built as passenger/cargo ship under yard No 616 by Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd., Linthouse, Glasgow for British India Steam Navigation Company Ltd., London.
10 March 1948 launched as the KARANJA, named after an island opposite Bombay, India.
Tonnage 10.294 grt, 5,893 nrt, 9,120 tons. Dim. 154.53 x 20.20 x 9.93m., draught 8.32m. length bpp. 149.35m
Two sets of Parsons turbines manufactured by builder, 9,700 bhp, twin shafts, speed 16 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 60 first class, 180 second and 75 intermediate and 2,208 deck passengers.
Cargo capacity 6,529 cubic metres.
01 October 1948 delivered to owners.

16 October 1948 sailed from London on her maiden voyage to Bombay.
After arrival in Bombay in the service between Bombay and the East and South coast of Africa, making calls at the Seychelles and Mombasa and Durban.
1955 Passenger accommodation changed the deck passengers were replaced by 850 bunked.
From 1969/1970 refitted at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore, air condition fitted in the public rooms and cabins.
Passenger accommodation altered to 124 cabin, 168 economy, 200 third and 316 bunked passengers.
01 October 1971 under management of the P&O General Cargo Division.
1973 Ownership was transferred to Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co.
30 May 1975 transferred again to British India Steam Navigation Co.
09 June 1976 laid up in Bombay.
06 August 1976 sold to The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd., India and renamed NANCOWRY.
December 1988 scrapped by Mansoor Taherbhai, Bombay.
