EAGLE. Clipper. Built in 1851 by Perine, Patterson & Stack, Williamsburgh. New York. USA for Harbeck & Co. New York. 1.296tn (old measurement) L 192'. B38'10". 22', dead rise,30 inches. She was noted for her long, sharp entrance, with concave lines and an ornamental eagle on her bow. Maiden voyage, she left New York on 10 July 1851 arriving at San Francisco 18th November. For a period of five years she sailed between New York and San Francisco. On 15th November 1856 she arrived at Shanghai with a heavy cargo from London and in April put into Manila to bury her captain. For a period she operated on the coast of Asia. During the fall of 1862 thoroughly overhauled at New York, receiving new masts and rigging. She then went to Calcutta and was sold to H J B Johar, a Parsee merchant and renamed TURKEY.
