Laid down 21 August 1941 by the Defoe Boat and Marine Works, Bay City, MI ,Launched 20 July 1942, as ‘Auk’ class minesweeper USS CHICKADEE (AM 59) Commissioned 9 November 1942. Decommissioned 15 May 1946 at Astoria, OR.
Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists decommissioning and placed in reserve date as December 1945.
Displacement 890 t. L:67,41m. (221' 2") B:9,80m. (32' 2") Draft:3,28m.(10' 9") 2 1,559shp. ALCO 539 diesel electric engines, Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts, 18.1 kn. Complement 105.
Armament: 1- 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, 2- 40mm. gun mounts, 8- 20mm. guns, 2 depth charge tracks, and five depth charge projectors.
Reclassified as a Fleet Minesweeper (Steel Hull), MSF-59, 7 February 1955.
Transferred to Uruguay 18 August 1966 and renamed ROU COMANDANTE PEDRO CAMPBELL (MSF 1)
Arrived in Uruguay 3 October 1966, Struck from the Navy Register 1 August Reclassified MS-31 . Reclassified as a Corvette, C-4, 23 November 1979

Commenced a major overhaul 1 October 1986 for Antarctic expeditions. Overhaul completed in December 1989. Designated as an Antarctic and Oceanographic Support Vessel in May 1990. Underway for her first Antarctic cruise 15 January 1991
Decommissioned 18 March 2003. Struck from the Uruguayan Navy Register 12 December 2003. Being used as a training hulk for abandon ship drills as of 2006 at Escuela de Especialidades (Specialties School), Montevideo premier training facility, which is a combination boot camp, "A" schools and "C" schools. 2005 scrapped.
