Battle of Bismarck Sea
BISMARCK SEA. On the 2nd-4th March 1943 Bombers of the US and Royal Australian Air Force attacked a Japanese convoy sinking 4 Destroyers and all 8 Troop Transports carrying an entire infantry Division. Japanese Destroyers sunk were SHIRAYUKI (Mutsuki Class) ASASHIO (Asashio Class) ARASHIO TOKITSUKAZE (Kagero Class) The $3 value shows U S Battle Fleet 1944 - Grenada 1990 $2 $3 SG2116-2117 (P G Longhurst)

The $3 Grenada stamp has not much to do with the Battle of the Bismarck Sea. The Allied airplane’s used in this battle came from land-based airfields
