U-1225 (Type IX)

U1225 was a Type IX Variant IX C40 submarine built at Deutsche Werft, Hamburg ..
She was 252' long with a breadth of 22.75’ and a draught of 15.5' with a displacement of 1120 and 1232 tons. She had two diesels of 4400hp giving a surface speed of 18.2 knots and two motors of 100hp giving a submerged speed of 7.7 knots.
Armament was six 2l inch torpedo tubes, one 4.l inch, one 37mm and one 20mm guns.
On the 24th of June 1944 U-1225 was caught on the surface north of the Shetland islands by Flight Lt D Hornel RCAF on routine air patrol. Despite AA fire he attacked with depth charges and sank the submarine.
