CABO VERDE

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Apr 10, 2014 11:22 pm

The stamp issued in 1977 by Cape Verde 1e is given by Stanley Gibbons that she is the CABO VERDE. Comparing the stamp with photo’s she is not the CABO VERDE built in 1962 as the SIREFJELL and renamed in 1971 CABO VERDE. While she is the only vessel under that name when the stamp was issued the name is wrong. Also she never was registered under the flag of the Cabo Verde.

In Watercraft Philately CD-Rom A-D is given:
We have received the following from Peter Crichton of Gibraltar. "I have been through the World Ship Society Journal Marine News from 1969 to 1980 and the only CABO VERDE I can find is that shown in Talbot-Booth's Merchant Ships., Part I., and this is definitely not the ship shown on the stamp. The CABO VERDE is still under the Portuguese flag and according to the Lloyds, May 26, 1981, on a voyage from Lisbon, having left there on May 12th. If she had been under Cape Verde flag it would have been stated in the index. A photograph of this ship may show the name clearer. If it is CABO VERDE, I can find no mention of the ship having been built or renamed for the period 1969-1980 with the exception of the ship that is not shown on the stamp."
By comparing the stamp with photo’s she is SANTO ANTAO also depict on Cape Verde 1980 12e sg496. http://www.shipstamps.co.uk/forum/viewt ... f=2&t=5934
