BARDI

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu May 15, 2014 12:12 am

Iceland issued in 2014 a set of stamps depicting fishing vessels, by the set is given:
Trawlers and Multipurpose Fishing Vessels
Fishing companies started operating stern trawlers on a regular basis in Iceland in 1970 while the first stern trawler started fishing about 20 years earlier. Andrés Gunnarsson, a young engineer, introduced the concept of the stern trawler which transformed the entire working conditions of the fishing industry.
There are freezers on board the multipurpose fishing vessels, so the catch can be processed directly.
Barði NK 120. The first stern trawler in Iceland arrived in January 1971, built in France 1967. Steel 328 BRT. Barði was sold to France in 1979.
