VICTORY LAKE DHOW

Victoria Lake dhow: Were built along the shores of Lake Victoria, built of cedar from East Africa and are given in the local Swahili term the name “jehazi”.
Dhows have no keel and can’t sail against the wind
Employs a single quadrilateral lateen-type sail with a short luff.
Tonnage range from 5 – 50 tons, with the largest carry a crew of 10, and are similar to coast dhows.
2015 There are still a few around but mostly fitted out with an auxiliary engine.

Kenya-Uganda & Tanganyika 1930 5c and 50c sg111 and 116. 1938 5c, 5c other color, 25c and 50c sg 132,133,140 and 144e.
