THE BRIDGES OF TOKO-RI stamp/poster

Post by aukepalmhof » Sat Sep 03, 2016 12:57 am

Monaco issued a stamp in 2016 which depict the poster of the film Bridges at Toko-Ri.

The Bridges at Toko-Ri, an American film directed by Mark Robson in 1954, recounts the events of the Korean War. It was highly successful when it was released, winning the Oscar for Best Special Effects. Grace Kelly plays the wife of an American army lieutenant.
Monaco Post.

Mr. Jean-Louis Araignon gives that on the English Wikipedia page is given that the USS ORISKANY (CV-34) was used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bridges_at_Toko-Ri (but she is not depict on the stamp/poster.)
Mr. Peter Crichton gives that the USS ORISKANY had a gun deck under the bow when built (later removed but still she had a different bow.) then he gives, I believe she is one of the Colossus class of the Royal Navy and could well be the French FS ARROMANCHES.
I agree with him and most probably she is the ARROMANCHES. See for her details: http://www.shipstamps.co.uk/forum/viewt ... LOSSUS#p87
