EGYPTIAN SAILING SHIP (BURIAL BOAT)

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Sep 11, 2016 7:58 pm

The stamp issued by République Democratique du Congo (Congo Kinshasa) shows an unmanned early Egyptian sailing vessel under sail, but comparing this by images on the internet, I believe it is a burial boat used for the transport of the body to the tomb. There is a wall painting in the pyramid of Pharaoh Sneferu (c 2600 BC) at Danshur which shows us almost exact the same ship as given on the stamp with a bi-pod mast. The painting shows the ship with persons on board.
Some Egyptologist believe that this boat was used by non-royal persons and used for funerary ritual purposes others give that the boat was used by the King for transportation to the otherworld.
