History
The National Navy within the so-called Orion Project, in which it is necessary to continue with the development of the Coast Guard component, for these purposes, the Ministry of National Defense and the National Navy of Columbia signed a contract with COTECMAR for Licensing of designs and engineering. Basic, detailed engineering development, construction, testing and commissioning of a medium-sized patrol vessel.
In 2008 with serious regional threats, it was decided to change the type of ship to a PZEE (patrol of exclusive economic zone).
COTECMAR in turn and after a process where they received from several international shipbuilders offers, chose as design OPV Fassmer 80. This design, which is already in service in the Chilean Navy.
