MALIZIA II was launched in August 2015 as Gitana 16, an IMOCA 60 class.
The IMOCA 60 is a class of advanced monohull sailing yacht administered by the International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA). It is dominant in single and double handed ocean racing.
The yacht was named in honour of François Grimaldi, nicknamed “the Cunning” (“La Malizia” in Monegasque), who arrived in Monaco by sea in 1297 and established the Grimaldi dynasty.
Named Gitana 16, the ship is winner of a French transat (Saint Barthelemy-Port la Forêt) in 2015. In 2016, a severe damage on a foil during Vendée Globe, the single-handed non-stop yacht race around the world without assistance. Then, Gitana is sold to the nephew of Monaco’s Prince Albert, Pierre Casiraghi.
