PORTO DA PRAIA ON SANTIAGO ISLAND in 1806

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Oct 22, 2018 8:16 pm

For the International stamp exhibition Brasiliana “93” at Rio de Janeiro, Cape Verde issued in 1993 one miniature sheet which shows us Porto da Praia on Santiago Island, Cape Verde in 1806.

The MS shows us the road of the port with many local small craft and it looks like a warship at anchor on the road.
The stamp is designed after an image from the book “A voyage to Cochin China (Vietnam) in 1792/93 by Sir John Barrow (1764-1848).
When Barrow visited the island I could not find, but most probably the vessel depict is the vessel he travelled on.
