PHOENICIAN TRADING SHIP

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Jan 01, 2019 7:00 pm

Gibraltar issued in 2000 a miniature sheet about the history of Gibraltar.
One of these stamps shows us a Phoenician trader around 700 BC trying to sell purple cloth, within the background of the stamp a Phoenician trading ship.

The Phoenician were already involved in coastal voyages from around 3000 BC., and great explorers of the ancient world.
From around 1200 BC she founded colonies in the Mediterranean and their ships were sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar, even trading with the people on the south west coast of England.

More info on the trading ship is given on: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8978&p=9069&hilit=p ... ship#p9069
