LORETO

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Jan 01, 2019 7:16 pm

For the 300th Anniversary of the town of Loreto, Mexico. The Mexico Post issued one stamp in 1997

Loreto was the first Spanish colonial settlement of the Viceroyalty of New Spain on the east coast of Baja California Peninsula. They was founded by the Jesuit missionaries.
The stamp shows a map of the Lower California Peninsula, within the lower part on the left a Spanish ship, most probably the vessel which transported the missionaries to the Peninsula. She is a “galleon” viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11966 which was mostly used by the Spanish at that time.
