The MS PANTA RHEI is the newest motor ship of the Zürichsee-Schiffahrtsgesellschaft (ZSG), which operates since the spring of 2008 on Lake Zurich.

Construction
The keel laying of the at that time still nameless MS 700 took place on 3 February 2006 in Linz in Austria. In June of the same year, the hull sections were transported by heavy transporters to the shipyard of the ZSG in Zurich Wollishofen . Subsequently, the ship was assembled by employees of the shipbuilding company ÖSWAG .

Naming
Traditionally, a name competition was held for the "MS 700". The jury agreed on « PANTA RHEI », a saying of the philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus, in German «Everything flows». This unfamiliar name choice led to discussions in the public since so far all ships of the ZSG had received names from the geography of the region Lake Zurich. A special ship needs a special name, it was said by the ZSG.

High wake
Just a few weeks after commissioning in April 2007, the PANTA RHEI had to be taken out of service again. The reason for this was an unexpectedly high wake, which caused damage to the shore and moored boats. The fault was the result of a miscalculation because the hull had been designed for a motor ship with only two and not three decks. The PANTA RHEI was around 15% too heavy and heeling heavily by the stern. By model testing, they tried out possible solutions and decided to enlarge the bow bulge, attach side floats and extend the stern by about two meters.
From May to November 2007, the PANTA RHEI was on Bürkliplatz and served as a restaurant.

Leaky seams
On January 28, 2008, the PANTA RHEI was again launched. A short time later, however, leaky seams were discovered on the newly mounted floats, resulting in renewed repairs.
In September 2014, there was more criticism regarding the safety of the ship.

Constructions
The PANTA RHEI has three decks for a maximum of 700 passengers: The main deck with restaurant and entrance / checkout desk on about 180 square meters of covered area, the upper deck (158 m²) and the sun deck (121 m²) for the first and second class, with the wheelhouse for the ship's command .

Interior fittings
The interior was designed by the company Auer from Innsbruck, which had already designed various luxury hotels and yachts. The lighting concept comes from the company Delux
