FLOR DE LA MAR replica

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Jun 27, 2019 8:05 pm

Malacca issued in 2019 a miniature sheet with two stamps which shows us de replica of FLOR DE LA MAR moored at the Melaka Maritime Museum. The other crafts are sightseeing vessels of which the one depicts on the right stamp look as a sampan.

The MS features the Melaka Maritime Museum and Melaka River Cruise as well as Astana Sarawak and Sarawak River Cruise. The MS is available for purchase at RM4.00 apiece. The cancellation mark as seen on the FDC for this series features the Tangga Melaka and the Hornbill.

At the Melaka Maritime Museum is a replica of the FLOR DE LA MAR, a Portuguese ship said to have been carrying loot plundered from Malacca when it sank off the coast of Malacca on its way back to Portugal. Opened to the public in 1994, this unique museum is an enlightening trip back into Malacca’s past. The 34m-high, 36m-long and eight-meter-wide replica built in 1994 is located at Quayside Road 10 minutes away from the Dutch Square, the Melaka Maritime Museum is divided into the different eras that Malacca has gone through, from the Melaka Sultanate period to Portuguese, Dutch and British rule.

Museum exhibits the maritime History of Malacca during seven Eras:
The famed Malay Sultanate Era from the 15th Century to 1511
The Portuguese Era 1511-1641
The Dutch Era 1641-1795
The British Era 1795-1941
The Japanese Era 1941-1945
Again the British Era 1945-1957
The Malaysia Independence Era 1957 to date
