Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Jul 07, 2019 8:05 pm

The WHITE HEATHER a wooden hulled nobby was built in 1904 by Neakie & Watterson, Peel for George Gaskill a fisherman of Peel.
Christmas Eve 1904 launched,
Dim. 13.11 x 4.12 x 2.14m.
Lug rigged.
Crew 4 men and a boy.

Between 1905-1906 fished for herring and mackerel, 1907 she fished for cod with lines.
03 March 1913 sold to James Palmer from Portavogie County Down, Northern Ireland. During World War 1 she was fitted out with a 14hp Kelvin auxiliary engine.
During World War 1 the engine was replaced with a 5-cyl.Gardener, and she had only a steadying sail on the mizzen mast.
Circa 1945 sold to Sam McVeigh of Portavogie, and she was fishing out of Whitehaven for cod in the 1950s.
1953 Sold to John Ennis.

Around 1957 sold out of fishing to Plunkett Connolly a yachtsman and shipwright from Groomsport in County Down, she was converted in a yacht. Thereafter bought by the McCullough’s family, and moored at Killyleagh on Strangford Lough.

Then bought by the yachtsman and marine surveyor, Horatie Todd. For a time she was taken out of the water and stored in a garden where she slowly deteriorated.
1974 Bought by two policemen, who carried out work on her and launched her again in the Strangford Lough. She was then gaff ketch rigged. The yacht was fitted out then with a wheelhouse and coach roof. Her engine was replaced by a 45hp diesel engine.

Mike Clark bought the WHITE HEATHER in October 1989 and so far I can find he owned her still in 2019.
