LANDING CRAFT ASSAULT (LCA) and HMS NELSON or RODNEY

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Jul 12, 2019 8:37 pm

The 66p stamp issued by Alderney in 2019 shows us the Landing Craft Assault (LCA) 831 (or lcJ 831) and I believe (LCA) 765, can’t find this numbers in The D-Day ships. By John S. Winser, the large vessel in the background looks like that one of the NELSON class battleships is used by the designer. The class had two ship, HMS NELSON viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7764 and HMS RODNEY viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9701&p=17279&hilit=RODNEY#p17279. The ship on the left of the stamp is not identified.

The 80p shows us also a Landing Craft Assault (LCA) 1173 also not mentioned in Winser book that she has taken part in the D-Day landings. More on this class is given on: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14708&p=16772&hilit=LCA#p16772
