LUDOLF BAKHUIZEN painting ROAD OF ENKHUIZEN

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Aug 27, 2019 9:12 pm

The DDR issued in 1982 a set of stamps, showing paintings, the 5pf shows a painting made by Ludolf Bakhuizen (1631- 1708) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludolf_Bakhuizen

The painting made in ca. 1680 shows us ships on the road of Enkhuizen in the Zuiderzee, Netherlands. In the background, you see the town of Enkhuizen.
By looking at the painting and the wind direction and the set of the sails, it looks that the larger ship sails astern.

The painting is now in the collection of the Staatliches Museum in Schwerin, Germany.
