ESPAMER '87'

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Sep 13, 2019 7:46 pm

In 1987 Spain issued four stamps in a miniature sheet to celebrate ESPAMER “87” held at La Coruna on 02-12 October 1987. The stamps who have a face value of 90 pesetas, but the sheet sold for180 pesetas.
They illustrate the theme of ESPAMER ‘87’ “The maritime post to the Indias”.
The first letter to the Indies was taken by Columbus on his first voyage. It was addressed to the Great Khan from his sovereigns, Ferdinand and Isabel. On 24 August 1764 a regular maritime post was established between Coruna and Havana. Every month one ship sailed from La Coruna.

The stamps in the M.S. are:
8 ptas. A maritime post cover from La Coruna to Havana in the 18 the century. (no ship)
12 ptas. The port of La Coruna after an engraving from the 19th century
20 ptas. The entrance to Havana Harbour after an engraving from the 18th century.
50 ptas. Two packet vessels of the 18th century based on a painting by Gonzàlez de Aledo (1923-2000)
