450th Anniversary of the creation of the Spanish Marine Corp

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Sep 19, 2019 8:52 pm

In 1987 the Spanish Post issued one stamp of 19 pesetas for the 450th Anniversary of the creation of the Spanish Marine Corps. The stamp depicts an 18th-century Spanish ship of 74 guns, one of the so-called “English Series”. On the right a mariner who carried the flag of the Corps.
The Regiment of the Armada was an elite Corps established in 1537. The peak of its glory occurred at the Battle of Lepanto with Juan de Austria at the head of the Armada, the youngest Commander in history. It is still considered to be an essential military Corps capable of linking control of the seas to control of the land.
