MSC SEASIDE is a cruise ship built for MSC Cruises. The first of MSC's next-generation SEASIDE class vessels, it is the largest cruise ship ever to be constructed by its builder, Fincantieri of Italy, and features a custom-designed multi-story aqua park built by WhiteWater West of Canada. The first steel cut took place on 22 June 2015 in Monfalcone. The keel was laid in Monfalcone on 4 March 2016, and the vessel was floated out of the shipyard on 26 November 2017. When it debuted, it was the 14th largest cruise ship in the world, behind FREEDOM OF THE SEAS and INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS.
SEASIDE entered into service in December 2017. It is operating year-round to the Caribbean, from a renovated and expanded dedicated berth and terminal at Port Miami, Florida, USA. The naming ceremony was on 22 December 2017 in Miami, she was christened by the film-star Sophia Loren. In May of 2018, SEASIDE became the first of MSC Cruises' fleet to be directed by a citizen of the United States of America, Gene Young.
On 17 November 2018, seven of the ship's crew (three Jamaicans and four South Africans) were arrested at the Port of Miami after Customs and Border Protection officers found 7 kilograms of cocaine and 100 000 US Dollars in their cabins and in their possession. According to officers the cocaine came from Jamaica, was en route to the USA and the crew members had been recruited by a Jamaican. The incident was confirmed by MSC Cruises PR Department. All seven suspects are being held in custody with bail set at $250 000. They appeared in the Miami Federal Court on December 3 and pleaded not guilty. If found guilty they can face imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life. The investigation continues. The South African Department of International Relations confirmed the incident.
SEASIDE has a passenger capacity of 5,429, plus a crew capacity of 1,413. The ship does not have a floor #17, likely due to superstition, though the ship does have a floor #13.Built A section of the ship at the front, and occupying the top two floors, is called the Yacht Club. It is a private-access, all-inclusive "VIP" area that features the Topsail Lounge, the Yacht Club Restaurant, the Yacht Club Sundeck, Pool, and Bar. Yacht Club guests tend to pay extra for a faster boarding process, butler service, included beverages, faster disembarkation and more.
