ARKONA icebreaker

Built as a multi-purpose ship under yard no 510 by Peene Shipyard, Wolgast for the Waterways and Shipping Authority Stralsund, Germany.
15 October 2003 laid down
18 June 2004 launched as the ARKONA.
Tonnage 2,056 gt, 616 net, dim. 69.20 x 15.0 x 4.5m (draught)
Load capacity 895 ton.
Powered diesel electric by four V12 twin-turbo diesels generators, 4,860 kW (6,608 hp), two Azi-POD, speed 13.1 knots.
02 April 2005 commissioned, homeport Stralsund, IMO No 9285811.
ARKONA is the name of a multi-purpose ship with homeport Stralsund, which is used by the waterway and shipping office Stralsund on the Baltic Sea.
History
The ARKONA was built as a pollutant accident control ship (SUBS) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) on the Peene shipyard in Wolgast. The cost was 44 million euros. The shipowner is the Waterway and Shipping Office Stralsund.
The keel laying of the ship took place on October 15, 2003, the launch on June 18, 2004. The ship, which was completed on 25 November 2004, was stationed on 2 April 2005 at it's home port Stralsund in the service of the former Water and Shipping Authority Stralsund and replaced the previously active icebreaker STEPHAN JANTZEN .
Just one year after commissioning, Germanischer Lloyd found defects in the ship. In January 2008, the classification was withdrawn. The ship was at this time under repair of the Azimuth POD drives in the Stralsunder Volkswerft . Since February 2008, is the ship back in service. On October 26, 2017, the ship was newly classified by Lloyd's Register and on 21 December 2017, the still valid until 30 November 2019 class run at DNV GL was prematurely ended.
Use: The ship serves several purposes: Spillage incident,
Emergency kidnappings,
Ice-breaking (up to 50 cm ice),
Fire fighting,
Perception of shipping police tasks and
Placing and repairs on floating buoys.

The propulsion of the ship is diesel-electric. The ship has two pods with electric motors (Schottel SEP 2) with an output of 1850 kW each.
