BOUNTY MUTINY

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Nov 15, 2019 10:07 pm

$1 - Bligh cast adrift
Overthrown BOUNTY captain William Bligh managed the incredible feat of sailing 6,701 kilometres to Timor in a seven-meter open boat. He then proceeded to England, with the help of Dutch East India Company vessel VLIJT, to report the mutiny. In response, the frigate HMS PANDORA was sent to capture those involved. While Captain Bligh was court-martialled for the loss of the BOUNTY, he was pardoned and went on to become the governor of New South Wales in 1806.

$2 - Mutineers
Artist Robert Dodd’s 1790 painting of the mutiny shows Fletcher Christian standing atop the stern of the BOUNTY between two breadfruit trees while William Bligh stands in his shirtsleeves in the longboat. Artist Robert Dodd’s work is the only known contemporary portrait of Fletcher Christian.
