Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Nov 25, 2019 7:13 pm

For the World Championship Finn Dinghy class in Gdynia from 22 – 29 July 1965 the Polish Post issued a set of stamps and a miniature sheet.

Most of the class types have before appeared on stamps but the Vega class yacht not.

Displacement 7,300 kg. Dim. 11.6 x 2.90m. Length on the waterline approx. 10m.
Sloop rigged, sail area 54.6m².
Wooden mahogany hull with oak ribs.
Auxiliary engine Volvo-Penta 4-cyl. Diesel. Hp?
Vega - a yacht type very popular in Poland in the late 1960s and in the 1970s. A seagoing sloop yacht designed by R. Langer and K. Michalski in 1960
The wooden-hulled Vega yachts were manufactured by the Szczecin Yacht Shipyard, she was a development of the construction of Conrad II type yacht.
The yacht is very strong and quite fast, with a bright and spacious interior, convenient for sea tourism, equipped with equipment from Western companies and a 4-cylinder Volvo-Penta engine (which in those years was a big luxury, since most Polish yachts did not have any engine at that time), was a major breakthrough in the quality of sailing equipment that Polish sailors could use so far.

A total of 39 yachts of this type were produced, however, due to the decrease in demand for wooden hulled yachts, the Shipyard had to cease their production.
Most of these yachts have been taken out of service.
