ARTHUR RIMBAUD poet

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Dec 01, 2019 7:54 pm

In 1951 France issued a stamp to honour the poet Arthur Rimbaud, the background of the stamp recalls one of his works “The Drunken Boat” and depicts a sailing ship drifting out of the mouth of the river and into the stormy sea.

The ship floating aimlessly down the river is to symbolize Rimbaud’s own life and desires.

The background of the stamp is designed after an illustration in “bateau Ivre”
